Symbology

In shamanic symbology, the drum is the heartbeat and its sound allows us to vibrate together with the heart of the cosmos. It is the language that unites Father Heaven to Mother Earth and expresses itself through the powerful sound of thunder. It is also the vehicle that the shaman uses to travel between different worlds: rhythm transports him to other states of consciousness, to trance, to the Spirit. The old roots of the drum come from the inner rhythm. It was created in order to amplify the act of clapping hands. Through the continuous beat of the drum, human beings give a regular structure to their songs and connect to the constant cyclicity of Nature and the rhythmic pulsations of its manifestations. 

Ritual

The Temazcal or Sweat Lodge is an Amerindian shamanic ritual of purification, rebirth and healing. It is considered one of the most powerful healing techniques in the Native American tradition. Through hot steam, singing and prayers, the Temazcal ritual leads participants to an ecstatic and mystical experience. It celebrates the connection to Mother Earth and the four elements: air, fire, water and earth, associated with the mental, energetic, emotional and physical planes. Through the Temazcal ceremony, one is reborn as a child of the Father Sun, represented by the fire in which the stones are heated, and of Mother Earth – whose belly is symbolized by the hut where the ceremony takes place. The practice was used in antiquity both for curative purposes to cure diseases and physical problems and for spiritual purposes to achieve a non ordinary perception and expand consciousness.
